Warm Welcome

This miniature climber is on our back deck. I'll put it in a big pot and move it out front next weekend.

Our deck is a great place to be on a warm afternoon.

Afternoon Heat

For some reason the heat brings out my inner white trash. I love making dinner in the light, drinking whiskey and listening to some twang.

So I Was Looking Through My Digital Negs

I'm looking through my files for something that would evoke one of the following:
Strength
Tranquility
Imagination

This is for a photo contest where the level of competition is very high.

I found this one. Or rather, I found a series of exposures, and I created this from one of those.

I still need to work on this - it needs to be cropped tighter to eliminate the light spots in her hair on the right.

These Are The Days of January

Some years we get a solid mass of cloud overhead from November to March.

Some years we get a break somewhere in the middle, like this year. We had two weeks of gloriously bright, clear weather that lifted the spirits of those of us who love the light.

This is sunset in Gasworks Park in Seattle.

Mural Acne

This is part of a mural at the Pike Place Market in Seattle. I find that painted surfaces are filled with texture and light.

Looking Out On Puget Sound

These stalls line the sidewalk to the east of the Pike Place Market in Seattle.

These are backlit - I actually wish I'd bought a heart. I think it would look good in our kitchen window.

Starting to Settle In

There's always an adjustment period with a new camera or lens. I would say that the adjustment period for the D700 was short - it was so much more capable than anything I had previously that I mostly spent the time saying 'wow'.

The D800 is different. It is revealing itself to be very demanding - of the best lenses, and the best technique. But when you have those, you can get some wonderful results.

This is about 60% of the frame. I shot this with a borrowed 105mm 2.8 Micro-Nikkor, at ISO 400. There are few adjustments here - a little boost to contrast, a sharpness mask (high pass filter), and a small bump in saturation, about 5% as I remember.

I spent more time on the photos of the milk.

There will be more, I think.
